Dance

Her body was moving with a speed and elegance that the heads of those who were watching were nearly spinning. They were all stunned. The darkness of the night and the flicker of the lights gave her a mysterious air. Her golden armlets and earrings were tinkling with every move that went through her petite body. The drumming grew louder and she moved her hips in rhythm. A harp was accompanying her passionate dance. Her hair swirled through the air when she threw her head back. The sound from a violin came from somewhere, but no one looked around to find it. Sweat was visible on her forehead in the dim light of the fire. However, she looked completely at ease. Her eyes were closed and her lips formed unspoken words. She didn’t notice the crowd, which had gathered all around her.

Maybe it was because of the alcohol. She had never had a high tolerance of wine.

However, all thoughts were forgotten when she spun around smoothly. She was free…

The spectators were holding their breath excitedly. The music felt so far away. All gazes were on the young woman.

But the silence didn’t last long. Suddenly the noise of steps and hooves came closer to the plaza. A blond man, with an odd hat, appeared with his horse at his side. Some people tore their eyes away from the dancer to take a look at the stranger, who was obviously annoyed.

“Great.”

The crowd was blocking his way to his hired house. After his already bad day, he wasn’t in the mood for a blockage in front of his resting place.

What’s so interesting anyway?

He tried to catch a glimpse of what was so amazing, but the spectators didn’t let him. Angrily he blew his cigarette smoke through his nose. Silently cursing under his breath he mounted his horse to have a better view. What could have gotten their intention like this? He noticed the music but it sounded so far away. Unintentionally his eyes grew wider when he caught sight of the dancer. He nearly dropped his cigarette. Sure he had already seen plenty of dancers but no one could have competed with this wild beauty.

The lanterns flattered her figure and she looked like she was in trance. Even if he had wanted to look away, he knew that he could not have. It was as if she had put a spell on him. She had bewitched him with her fiery magic. He watched every move of her under the brim of his hat. The drumming grew even louder and it nearly felt as if his heart was beating in rhythm with the music.

Involuntarily he caught his breath.

Suddenly the music stopped. The young woman stood still and opened her eyes slowly.

Their eyes met.

Worlds collided…
