Embarking on Dreams
In the quietness of my room, I sat at my desk bathed in the soft glow of the afternoon sun. The air hung heavy with anticipation as I stared at the email notification on my computer screen. With a mix of excitement and nervousness, I clicked on the email, unleashing a paragraph of words that held my future. As my eyes scanned the text, the word “Congratulations” stood out like a beacon of affirmation, sending a surge of emotions running through my veins. I felt shivers all over.
It was official, I had been accepted into my dream university. N. Y. fricking U. It has been my dream university since sixth grade. The realization hit me like a wave, a mix of joy, relief, and disbelief crashing over me. The dreams that had led to endless nights of studying and wanting to be one of the people I would always see on NYU’s instagram page, was no longer distant. They had turned into reality, in fact, my reality.
My room, witness to the highest and lowest of my academic journey, seemed to have a relief ending with the weight of the moment. The sunlight creeping through the curtains, casting a warm, golden hue on the walls, which had loads of pictures of my highschool years up until now. Outside the window, the world went on. The constant howling of our neighbour's dog ‘fluffy’, the honking coming from a long line of traffic. But within those four walls, I grappled with the enormity of the news. A smile smeared across my face. The acceptance letter symbolised more than an academic achievement, it was an invitation to experience countless possibilities and most likely the best years of my life.
As I sat there, the glow of the computer screen reflected in my eyes, I felt a rush of gratitude. Gratitude for the unwavering support of those who believed in me, my family, my best friends, and for the motivation that carried me through the challenges I faced throughout these past four years. I couldn’t help but think of the adventure that awaited me at my dream university, a sweet but yet terrifying adventure born out of passion, and now, confirmed with a simple yet profound “Congratulations”.
