Hidden

The forest was atop a miniscule hill, far from cities, far from noise and hurriness. Sunlight shone generously onto the sky-reaching groups of trees. Specks of sunlight fell onto the forest floor through gaps between the large plants, allowing them to bathe themselves in the sun as well. Light and shadow danced with each other as gusts of gentle breezes shook the leaves above.

Shades of the rainbow could be seen in the air from the undispersed morning mist. It was hard to take a deep breath from the humidity and from the majesty of the panorama.

In the distance, a river could be heard flowing gently downhill. Gentle yet clean and crisp sounds of water splashing onto rocks were occasionally noticed, creating a melody that can only be heard in nature. A few beads of dew drops were still clinging on to the mint-green shade of grass. The transparent pearls wetted my white shoes and the ends of my jeans as I stood in the middle of this scene, amazed.

A few steps away to my left, carefully sealed by the mystical mist, sat a cottage. The cottage was old, almost ancient. Jade-green coloured vines emballaged the construction, creating a magnificent masterpiece of nature on a wooden canvas. The vines started from the bottom left corner and had spread out all around the house, parting and joining together irregularly. Twists and turns of the plants created abstract yet magnificent lines as if they were drawn by a toddler with a green marker. At first sight, the scene seemed to be out of order, yet if every minor detail was closely inspected, a sense of unity could be felt and the unique feeling of nature was shown vividly.

The cottage didn’t feel out of place. Rather, it had blended in with its surroundings. Serenity can be felt just by looking at the scenery. It was clear that the house has been vacant for a few years. The rooftop had started to fall apart and holes could be seen on some of the planks. Windows no longer had any glass and was simply a fragmented frame. A brown sparrow had returned to its nest built on the chimney with a struggling worm in its mouth. The door, old yet stable, was half open, as if beckoning visitors to enter and discover more about the story that was hidden in the mysterious relic.
